Waiting for your call at the Belize Red Cross telethon
The Belize Red Cross always comes to the rescue in times of disaster and is now branching out its program to include additional services to youth and vulnerable residents. But in order to keep assisting those in need, the Red Cross needs your help. This Saturday, the organization is holding its annual telethon to fund its programs and preparedness mechanisms for this year’s hurricane season. With a target of fifty thousand dollars, the Red Cross is asking you to support the telethon by either stopping by or calling in with pledges. Field Officer, Evelyn Landaverry told News Five how the public can participate.

“This telethon is an annual event where we do—we’re doing it every year to promote and to ask also the Belizean community to assist us. As many may know, we do a lot of projects; we have different programs that are geared towards helping the vulnerable people in Belize.”

“So when and where will it be held?”
Evelyn Landaverry
“Now thanks to the sponsorship of, for instance, James Brodies that allowed us to use their facilities at the Northern Highway, we’re going to be there on Saturday from nine to four. We’ll be out there, some of our volunteers will be also helping out and asking for donations. For some people, they can actually call and make their pledge. Right now we have one line that is opened and this number is 653-6811. You can start calling from today, the line is open. We also we have other numbers that will be available for Saturday and the numbers are: 653-6809, the other one is 653-6810, following is 601-0014, the other one is 630-6528 and the final one 630-9463. So once again, there’s a list of numbers and we are humbly asking the Belize community to support; all the businesses, the banks. Once again, what we’re trying to do is to get funds so that we prepare ourselves to serve in case any disaster or anything may occur.”
While Brodies is providing the venue, the Red Cross telethon also has support from Smart and Telemedia, which are providing three telephone lines each.
