Another cop charged with extortion

Norman Bol

Charges brought against another Belize City cop are tainting the police department even further. Twenty nine year old Police Constable, Norman Bol, who is attached to the C.I.U. was arraigned in the Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of extortion, to which he pleaded not guilty. The charge is in connection with an allegation made by Marilyn Matus, who claims that Bol extorted four hundred dollars from her on June third. It is reported that Matus’ common-law husband, Roberto Matus, was in police custody for threatening words when Bol approached her requesting four hundred dollars for her spouse’s release. Roberto was never charged and Marilyn reported the incident.  In court today, Bol was granted bail of five thousand dollars and the court prosecutor asked that certain conditions be applied. Kareem Musa, Bol’s attorney, objected to the request but Magistrate Hettie Mae Stuart proceeded to place three conditions to the bail. Bol can’t leave the country without the court’s permission, nor must he interfere with the witnesses and must report to the police station on Fridays.  Bol is scheduled to be back in court on July twenty-sixth.

Crooked police are a taint on all the honest officers, but arresting them is no taint — it’s the right and just thing to do. Prosecute every rotten apple until the barrel is clean.

If he is honest, he must be demoted and forced out.

Otherwise promotions. The cartels need strong leaders and new talent.

The police department just hire people who wants a job and thats fit enough to pass a fitness test? They need to do some back ground check and polygraph test before hiring. too many cops being in the news for the wrong reason, this just paint a darker picture that Belize is pure corruption.
