Gang War in the midst of real gang truce

Dean Barrow

Crime is a number one concern throughout the country. Over a dozen people have been shot since last Friday night; most of the violence took place in the city and have been labeled by the Police Department as gang related. The gang war had an upsurge of shots on Tuesday night when at least two women were injured in three shooting incidents in Belize City. Even with those statistics, the PM at his press conference denied that the truce among city gangs is over. Instead he says that not all gangs were a part of the truce and individuals who broke the truce are excluded from the employment program which he insists is still working.

Dean Barrow

“It is not fair to say that the gang truce is only now the tissue of a fantasy. It’s a very nice sound bite, but it is absolutely inaccurate. A lot of what is happening is being caused by people who were never in the gang truce. The gang truce never pretended to encompass every last single individual who was in criminal gang activity and that was clear from the beginning. A number of gangs weren’t included in the truce and a number of members of gangs that were included in the truce always refused to participate. Current position; there are still some gang members that are working with the truce and that are behaving themselves. The payroll decreased because there are less in numbers for two reasons: number one; we do have the budgetary constraints. But number two; because if you are in the truce and you give any kind of trouble, you are rolled out and you are not replaced. Long story short, those that prove, demonstrate; that they are prepared to walk the straight and narrow will continue to be employed for so long as they keep the peace—so far as we can determine that. And the others—some of whom have always been outside the truce; some of who have been in the truce, but have now left—will simply have to be dealt with by the security forces.”

Our very own Neville Chamberlain! Appeasement will not work with evil, it only weakens the good and strengthens the bad.

GOB’s gang policy is lunacy at best.

Please answer this question for me, is this PM living in Belize. Two teenagers found dead after it was said they went to visit a drug gang person. Others who clearly belongs to gang are being shot and killed and he is saying these gangs are walking straight because they would be kicked from the payroll. Mr PM news flash for you Sir, there is more money in selling drugs than there is working for your truce handout, How stupid can you be, now I can see why the country is so messed up under your rule. You shake hands with the devil and you think that makes him good. The devil is laughing at you and getting stronger and you will not be able to contain him later. People of Belize you better begin to protect yourselves, your PM has no plans to protect you.

  7. poly-tician says:

so y get into a truce if only a select group was to ‘benefit’. This means that the violence was all anticipated, yet nothing is being done.Cm on, y not put better systems in place to ensure that the criminals get off the streets. If a member defys the truce, then he is no better off, hence the violence will continue to exist. Dean only d put a patch on the sore, but at some point the matter will burst!!!

  11. Blind Eye Jamesie says:

Even me could see that there is no truce, Barrow just the pay back for votes.

  12. Attitude says:

If they are gang members and not in the gang truce then the gang truce is NOT working! A gang truce (though not a solution I would propose) can only work if it is inclusive of all gang members. Any thing short of this is a waste of time and resource. y were some gangs not included in the truce? If you say gang truce is your method of crime reduction strategy, you have a duty to bring in all gangs … yes even those who refused to participate. This farce gives criminals the advantage … it only works “so long as they keep the peace”… not good!

  13. Me says:

This guy pm is intoxicated, blind or he is faking be retarded.

  14. Storm says:

Attitude, don’t you realize that only the PM’s FAVOURITE gangsters get the appeasement money? You gotta roll with his posse!

  15. now i see says:

  16. Sasha says:

I had heard that gov’t paid gang members, but thought it was a lie, now hearing it from the PM MOUTH makes me ashamed of being a Belizean & telling foreigners how nice of a place it is. How stupid can you be. He is the PM & GIVING MONEY FOR VIOLENCE, STUDENTS, YOU BETTER JOIN A GANG, THIS WAY U WON’T HAVE TO WORK, EASY MONEY.

  17. Sasha says:

Don’t blame PM or Gov’t for what’s happening, BLAME YOUR STUPID SELF, the problem was there before you went to vote them in, maybe YOU CAN TRY A RECALL.

  18. Ren says:

Really? Where exactly are you living in? Not Belize I am sure since if you would be and listening to daily news you would know we are living in insecure, fearsome days. We are locked up in our own houses for fear of the streets and now, not even our houses are safe enough with the many home invasions.

Don’t continue this circus pleas…just keep your mouth shut Barrow. Nothing good ever comes out of it.

  19. citizen #2 says:

Start hanging, Bellize hang a woman before, why can’t we hang these killers? Answer that. “Hang them High”, you wasting time., or maybe send them to fight in Afganistan, let them see some real fire power, don’t even care if any of them survive. Just get them out of Belize and let decent citizens live in peace.

  20. Get it right al says:

Doesn’t the pm see that they are the ones sponsoring all the guns and drugs. if you pay 15 men from a gang 200 dollars a week . the will be able to buy two to three guns a week. what a dumb prime minister
