Women victims in City Shootings

In the Old Capital, there were three shootings in six hours and two women fell victims to the gun violence. Just before midnight eighteen year old Kenesha Humes was socializing with friends in front her residence on Vernon Street when three men on separate bicycles rode by and fired several shots hitting Humes on the right knee. About an hour and a half earlier, also on Vernon Street, shots rang out for the second time Tuesday night. Another woman, twenty-one year old Carrie Wade was rushed to the K.H.M.H. after she was shot to the right thigh. Wade had gone to visit her family at their Vernon Street home where they were socializing with friends. Around ten-twenty p.m. as Wade was about to head home on her bicycle; at least one gunman came from the direction of Mosul Street and opened fire injuring Wade. According to the family, Wade was not the intended target.  News Five spoke to the Wade’s mother and sister.

This yard noh got no beef with nobody. Everybody heng and chill and everybody dah friend. I was out here and my baby coulda mi get shot, any baby coulda mi get shot and that noh fair.”

One person has been detained in connection with the shooting of Carrie Wade.

The third shooting occurred sometime around six-thirty on Tuesday evening. Three men were standing on Ordonez Avenue when three others rode up on bicycles. One of them then brandished a point thirty-eight revolver and fired five shots in their direction. Fortunately, no one was injured.
