Gang war results in 10 shooting victims during weekend

Elodio Aragon Jr.

There was a fourth shooting incident in the murder capital. The urban warfare is gang related according to the police. On Sunday night, at around ten-thirty-five twenty year old mechanic, Hazard Rowland, received two gunshot wounds—one to the right eye and the other to the left forearm. He is in critical condition.

Elodio Aragon Jr., Assistant Commissioner of Police

“It is known to us that these are all gang-related. And the persons who are involved to a large extent are either gang related or associate with gangs. We do have four individuals who are not but because they were out there in the vicinity at these individuals, they received injuries—they were not intended targets. And in particular I am talking about the two female. They were talking to two guys who are well known gang persons. At Elements, we had two other guys who received injuries. They were not affiliates but they were caught at that place and therefore received injuries. But I would like to mention that all these four shooting incidents have to do with gang affiliation and is connected to gang related incident.”

“Hazard Rowland is saying that he was on Lacroix Boulevard waiting for a friend who was making a purchase at his store when he saw a lone gunman on bicycle approach his vehicle from behind, fired a shot and hitting him somewhere around the right eye, but this bullet exited to the top of his head. He was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he underwent surgery.”

All be told, it was one of the most bloodiest weekends so far this year with the violence on Friday night alone claiming two lives and leaving seven others injured while one more person was shot on Sunday night. Aside from the murders and the shootings, to add to the violence, a grenade was hurled at a house on Banak Street. Fortunately, it was a dummy grenade and that story is coming up later in the newscast.

There is No way Belize should be acting this reckless and have our citizens of Belize sit back scared and hopeless. We are too much of a small country for these type of violence to be taking place, especially in the old capital. I personally believe that the leaders running the country is not qualified enough to do their duties properly. these criminal feel Invincible because they know that the system sucks and even if your apprehended chances are that 95% your not gonna be convicted for a murder, but yet petty thieves get locked up for a long time. Get it together Belize and uplift the nation!!

  7. Disown mi country says:

Blame the citizens for being so passive and gullible, accepting $ for votes. No excuse for the educated ones. You guys should band together and choose those who are true leaders, those who care about Beljze. There must be a few.

I am waiting to hear that the government is holding a press conference to talk about strategy to combat the latest round of violence. I am waiting to hear how the government will deal with those who are arrested for murder and dispense justice instead of saying you are free to go and maybe the next time we will catch you with the smoking gun in your hand and give you 5 years.
