Carjacking with a loaded gun
A carjacking took place in Belize City in the wee hours of Saturday morning and the suspect is already behind bars. Twenty-seven year old Fermin Matura was along with two female friends at around three a.m. when they suddenly asked him to stop the vehicle near a pedestrian crossing on Newtown Barracks. Two men then reportedly jumped into the vehicle, forcing Matura to drive at gunpoint. He complied and headed towards Coney Drive on the direction of the armed assailants. Matura says he was ordered to stop and that’s when he jumped out of the vehicle and escaped, abandoning the vehicle. Later that day, Matura’s vehicle was found in the Lake Independence area and twenty-three year old Ian Haylock was spotted fleeing the area. He was arrested and brought before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer where he was charged with Robbery and Aggravated Assault. Haylock was also found in possession of fourteen live rounds of point forty caliber ammunition and was additionally charged with Kept Prohibited Ammunitions. He has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison and is due back in court on July thirtieth.
