KTV Latino winners gain thousands of dollars in winnings

There’s a new KTV Latino Champ and he hails from the north. After moments of high anticipation and drama, the winner of Season Three was announced at the Bliss on Tuesday night before a live audience and thousands more watching at home or on streaming video. Of the four contestants on stage, Nasain Montalvo and Francesca Awe also from Corozal were the top two favorites who walked away with thousands of dollars in cash and many prizes. The suspense of the final moments was captured by freelance reporter Duane Moody.

Less than twenty-four hours ago, this Bliss Auditorium was the venue for the Grand Finale of one of the Biggest Entertainment Show in the Country; KTV Latino!

But as it was inching closer to the final decisive hour, tensions were running high. And I got the exclusive honor backstage to capture the excitement of it all.

Natalie Arceo, Host, KTV Latino

“It’s been great watching different performers come out and present themselves to the Belizean audience. And you know it is something that you don’t want any competition; you want to be able to root that every year Channel Five is able to produce a great season of KTV Latino and this year I was so honored that they invited me to host the show.”

Rick Alcoser

Rick Alcoser, Judge, KTV Latino

“I try to do my judging based on a person’s vocal ability, can that person be trained, can that person perform, can that person evolve throughout the thirteen, fourteen fifteen weeks—whatever the length of the competition is.  As we have all seen throughout these competitions—KTV Duets, KTV Latino and so forth—that it is basically a popularity contest. It is who has the biggest backing and who has the biggest machinery to gather money to text message that makes it to the end. It doesn’t necessarily mean the talented makes it to the end.”

“These people here, these top four have worked very hard and they are just sharing what they love to do which is something all musicians do—sharing their love for music.”

Los jueces, los anfitriones y tambien varios actuaciones magnifico. It was a night of pure talent and awesome performances including a special treat from former champ Daniel Aguirre.

But after all that talent on stage, were the contestants nervous?

Dr. Jose Espat, Finalist, KTV Latino

Jose Espat

“Humbly, I feel confident, not over-confident. However, whoever wins I am proud of them. If I win, I’m proud; I have worked hard as everyone has seen. Anyone of the four that wins, we are all champs. We are all here in the finals and everyone’s a winner. I feel confident and I feel satisfied of the work that I’ve done.”

Duane Moody

“Luis, are you going to win the championship tonight?”

Luis Romero

Luis Romero, Finalist, KTV Latino

“Of course, of course. I really hope and pray I’m walking with the ten thousand dollars tonight.”

Duane Moody

“Do you feel that throughout the season you’ve put out exactly what it is going to take to take home that title?”

Luis Romero

“I believe so. I believe that the people and my family support me so much that I believe that I have this.”

Nasain Montalvo

Nasain Montalvo, Finalist, KTV Latino

“I very confident of myself and whenever I go and sing on the stage, I go and do what I have to do and go ahead strong.”

Duane Moody

“Do you think your competitors came strong enough to take that away from you?”

Nasain Montalvo

“I believe so strongly, strongly. But I’m here to do what I have to do.”

Francesca Awe

Francesca Awe, Finalist, KTV Latino

“I’ve done what I have always done—be Francesca; be the happy Francesca; do what every Francesca like and what people love about me. Whatever I have done is for my people. At the beginning I thought I was going to be kicked out like the second week because Francesca was screaming like… (sings) So I thought I was gonna get kicked out the second week. It was so surprising that I got to the finals but gracias a todo Belice; todo el district. They have been calling me in all the radio stations La Reina de KTV Latino! It doesn’t matter if you don’t get the first place, you are la Leina de KTV Latino porque nunca las mujeres get this far, but this mujer is here.”

{Announcement of Nasain Montalvo as the winner!!}

Nasain Montalvo, Winner, KTV Latino Season 3

“I feel very good, very proud that I win this KTV. I deserve it, I work hard and I do what I have to do and this is my kids we are here together and all the best.”

Nasain Montalvo

“Well I gwen dah Chicago you know…(laughs) Not true. Well I have to clear up; I have to clear up my bills and otherwise everything gwen through.”

That Guatemalan woman from Corozal can not sing and should have been removed from this popularity contest long ago and sent back to c and b.

i really do not get why people complain. The public has the power to vote. I do not have a smart phone so i do not participate. Hopefully one day the organizers will figure out how to include everyone who has a phone. I am sure there is a way.
