F.F.B. Big Elections: will Bertie be dethroned?
For at least a decade, the president of the Football Federation of Belize has been Doctor Bertie Chimilio. There have been many controversies over the years, with many unsuccessfully trying to unseat Chimilio from his F.F.B. throne. In 2011, former Minister of Sports John Saldivar came close when he prevented the F.F.B. from hosting international games. A court battle ensued but Chimilio stayed on as president, but he committed to an election which is now slated for Thursday. News Five spoke earlier today with Miley Garcia, Sports Administrator about the elections.
Miley Garcia, Sports Administrator
“As you know, the elections for the new executive of the F.F.B. will take place tomorrow at six p.m. at the F.F.B. headquarters here in Belmopan. all the districts have new executives that were elected over a long process and then there was some time given from the time they requested the congress and now that date is the fifteenth of March.”
Jose Sanchez
“Who will be actually running for president, vice and other members of the F.F.B.?”
Miley Garcia
“Okay the last release from the F.F.B., we found out that they are three slates contesting. For the post of President, we have Doctor Bertie Chimilio who is the incumbent. We have Mister Gerald Henry Sr. and also Ruperto Vicente. For Senior Vice-President, there is Bernaldino Pech, Daniel Fabro and Sergio Chuc. And for Vice-President, we have John Moody, Rowell Pelayo and Darlene Padron. And for the members of the executive which will be two persons elected, it’s Michael Peyrefitte, Alejandro Palacio; better known as Alex Palacio who was chairman for Orange Walk before, there is Marlon Kuylen, Chris Gamez, David Jones and Hilberto Muschamp. The election, like you said, is one President, one Senior Vice-President, one Vice-President and two members.”
Jose Sanchez
“How long is this election expected to take place? How many votes can be cast? Who will be there to cast these votes?”
Miley Garcia
“The way it is set up now is that there twenty votes that will be cast. There are seven football districts because Belmopan is considered a football district and each of the seven districts have two votes and then there is the Premier League of Belize and that Premier League of Belize has six votes. So what it means is that there are twenty votes out there that are being played out—those are the people who have a right to vote and they will decide. And the way how the elections are for the F.F.B. according to the statues, the person only needs a simple majority to win the post that they are vying for.”
Jose Sanchez
“And this is also being monitored by FIFA; who will be there.”
Miley Garcia
“Our understanding is that a FIFA representative will be coming in who will be representing the international body and also the national sports council is there in a supervisory capacity to monitor the elections.”
Jose Sanchez
So, Thursday six p.m.?”
Miley Garcia
“Thursday, six p.m. at the F.F.B. Compound here in Belmopan.”
Sergio Chuc now wants to get his hands on the FFB’s purse. How greedy can this guy get??
So you rather da foolish animal doctor to stay on as head of the FFB then???
the best man for the job is ruperto vicente,he has contributed a lot to football in belize, all we know of speedy hendry is that he played back in the day since then he has not done anything for the sport in belize ,hell after he retired from playing he did not even try to impart his skill into others in the form of coaching, so why now? and as for sergio i have to agree with santa elena resident, he is just damm greedy.
Anybody else but Sergio Chuc!!! Just another crony feeding off his party while the rest of us get the crumbs!! I don’t care about the foolish animal doctor- just anybody else but Sergio Chuc!!
You know what man, I played soccer in Cayo back in the early 90′s and even played several games with Ruperto Vicente as center ref. The man was simply a pro at what he did both physically, mentally, and publicly! He ALWAYS carried himself with maximum respect during ALL games. Well spoken, well mannered personality are the qualities needed for such a position. Not to mention Vicente was one of the first FIFA recognized refs ever to be ordained in Bze. I’ve personally seen him refereeing on FOX SPORTS back then and I was extremely proud of his accomplishments and also to know he was one of us! He’s served his country well, he’s done wonders for the sport, he’s represented us internationally without embarrassment, and HE deserves the spot without question! Sergio Chuc just simply did not contribute to the sport enough or even played soccer in Bze, Speedy although a legend also did not recycle his talents towards the sport, and all the rest of them just DONT have that experience Vincente has! If any one disagree with this, you’d better have a damn good reason to back your opinions!!!
Ruperto Vicente without question has done more than any of the candidates here! He was among the first FIFA refs in BZE and has exposure both locally and internationally. He made us proud when he refereed on FOX SPORTS back in the early 90′s, always well mannered, well spoken, and well respected by those involved in the sport. His achievements are proof enough that he HAS what it takes to lead this body to a successful future without corruption, greed, or favoritism!!!!
Santa Elena Resident your really an idiot…
Cayo resident must be on Chuc’s payroll too. Look in the mirror and you’ll see the idiot!!!
