PM says some OAS Recommendations impractical
The comments made by the OAS Observer team were not out of the ordinary. The OAS observer mission was well received and felt the experience showed a working democracy. The PM, however, says that some of the suggestions are impractical and that elections are free and fair… but not perfect.
Dean Barrow
“They want to tell us to seize and desist from our time honored tradition of people campaigning vigorously when the voters are approaching the polling stations. Man that is a pipe dream; that is never going to happen. In an ideal world; that may no doubt be desirable but that is never going to happen. In terms of differentiation of state resources from party resources, of course the line sometimes becomes blurred, but again that is perhaps in an ideal world, also undesirable. But I repeat, Adele, we are talking about free and fair elections; not perfect elections. I am sure the OAS—whatever recommendations they made—I am sure the OAS never suggested that in any way our elections can be characterized as either unfair or un-free. So to the extent that they make suggestions for improvements, we must take those onboard except where those suggestions are so very clearly impractical.”
The preliminary statement on the Electoral Observation Mission was presented to the government during a meeting following the prime minister’s press conference this afternoon.
one should always respond with a cool head and he should have just simply said ” we will take it into consideration and adjust accordingly where needed” i think he was too hasty to respond when his his head was hot. that’s why they say cool heads prevails, cool down and now get back to governing the country and in finale i say congrats !!!
Speak your mind clearly and truthfully, How in the world will one know what you think if one is always masking his true feelings. I think Mr. Barrow answered as what his mind, heart and soul dictated. That is the only way. That was his opinion and he has every right to voice it. And what he said is factual.
Arrogance…his own way…
Why you always have to sound like you are fighting Mr Barrow? Just listen, nod and answer the people respectfully man. jeez. you and I know they cant force us to do anything, so just play nice and let them go on their way. You really rub me the wrong way when you act like that…
What an arrogant response from the PM. Belize will never change if this type of mind set exist and our elections day will always be plagued by heaving campaigning around polling areas, money pay offs to attain votes and victimization.
I think the PM expressed his feelings right. He just said what he felt at that moment .
and back to being a Jacka$$.
All arrogant people think alike – AL
No one should feel intimidated by anybody. Many of us Belizeans still have the mentality that when some stranger especially foreigners of light skin complex come and clap us on the headback we should just shrug ourself into a position where his claps won’t hurt much until he has had enough. Yes, Mr Barrow spoke the truth and I don’t think he threatened them in any way and indeed it looks so good and colorfull to watch outside of the polling areas with so many supporters of all parties just throwing some last blows on the voters. I don’t approve to the monies being distributed out there, because even if I don’t want to part take of the money taking I get tempted or even jelous of the ones getting. What do I do in order not to be seeing that? I just walk away and look from far. In Roaring Creek I enjoyed the presence of all PUP and UDP voters, we grew together and nothing shall break that bond between us, not politics of course, nor religion. Let us be positive and enjoy life in a peaceful non hating manner. To people with a hateful heart to the Prime Minister, if you walk to see peace let it start with you. Peace and Love to all My Belizean People. Blue, Red, Yellow, Green or Brown. We are one people. In war we see party color. We fight side by side until the enemy is destroyed or we all die together. Let us be positive!!!
In war we do not see party color. We fight the enemy side by side until the enemy is destroyed or we die together fighting the enemy. Let us be positive!!!
Even the minister sitting by Mr. Barrow Side d hide y face cause he is ashame of what Barrow is saying.
Satan is the most arrogant, he was the first to display arrogance and the loudess of all noises is the braying of an @$$.
in civilized countries, including in most of central america, there is a few days cooling period before the actual day of voting… no propaganda or electioneering and you can’t vote if you are wearing party colors…. why?? because voting is secret and sacred… SECRET!! time honored tradition?? 30 years only?
Barrow is arrogant as usual!!!! He knows everything!!!!!
IF EVERYONE IS SAYING IT THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO IT…The Prime Minister Needs to adopt a little humility. HE HAS ENOUGH POWER and MONEY TO BE HUMBLE and nice to people.
HE HAS NOTHING TO LOOSE…… ONLY TO GAIN.
But, but, da weh unu the complain bout. Unu tek money fi unu vote, now shut unu trap and stop complain. Barrow da king, unu sell unu vote to him for him to be king again, so stop cry yall and tek unu lick suckers.
