Moses’ Alert Protest

Moses Sulph, the former president of Citizens Organized for Liberty Through Action, has been a vocal force advocating for meaningful social and political reform to improve the lives of Belizeans.  Sulph has been on the forefront of numerous protests, spanning the tenure of both major political parties over the past nine years.  Most recently he was at the helm of a peaceful demonstration where many voiced their disapproval of the Ninth Amendment.  Today, Sulph was once again on the streets of Belize City where he was accompanied by an army of five who are disgruntled with the actions of the Barrow Administration.  According to Sulph, many of the issues that plagued the previous government have befallen the current administration and despite the promises made at the time of the last elections very little has been done to address them.  With banners and posters in hand he is now on a mission to raise the awareness among voters on all the perennial issues going into Wednesday’s dual elections.

“This is Belize Alert and basically we want people to stay alert in this time, in this election time and you will go to the polls and you will cast your ballot and that ballot will determine what happens for the next five years.  So it is seriously important that our people be alert and do not pay attention to all the political rhetoric, the promises, the false promises, the fifty dollars.  You want to be alert, you don’t want to pay attention to the propaganda and if you are alert then you’d be alert about the condition of the country such as poverty.  We are forty-four percent in poverty and when we say that I may want to itemize it by saying that that’s equal to a hundred and thirty-two thousand Belizeans living below the poverty line.  That is something that is cause for alert.  When you look at unemployment you must be alert.  When you look at the fact that we had a referendum where the people say that they don’t want offshore drilling and you still have a government who is adamant that they don’t want to listen to the people then you must be alert.  So out here today we know that election is close and we want the people to, it’s our last chance in trying to inform the people because I am a person that believes that information is power.  Information is knowledge.  I want to take this parallel though, a student goes to school and I would love to play this.  A student goes to school and they are graded by the subjects they take.  If you fail your subjects you will not be promoted to another class, to another standard.  You will not be promoted.  If you are a university student you will have to take all the subjects over.  In the same light you must be alert that if a government and you grade them based on the issues such as economic issues, job creation, poverty, policies, those things are what they are, taxes, these are the things they are graded on and if you grade them by that and they have failed then you cannot promote them.”

On point Moses, just so sad that all these issues are laid out infront of most of our people to see and they refuse to create change. What both parties do during these election times is that they focus on the non thinking part of society by giving $50 or paying light and water bills in order to gain votes and unbelievably we gain it. They refuse to allow education to be free, instead they use the money on fancy cars n mansions…another way they manipulate and our people and abuse their powers. Why cant they use the oil we have and make a trade with mexico or El Salvador (for instance, who has the BEST streets in the region) and pave our streets, fair trade in my eyes, everyone benefits. We need to shakes these apples off their high trees instead of waiting for them to fall my brother, together in unity we can conquer.

The Belizean people are so simple minded when it comes to politics. When the PUP is in power they complain about their corruption and want UDP in. Then come four years later they want UDP out and PUP in again. It is now time to check out the Independent parties to see if there are respectable/qualified individuals who will not bribe them around election time to vote for them, only to kick them to the curb after they are appointed in office. There are people that can govern Belize besides the UDP/PUP regulars. If you would only pray and ask God for wisdom, He would gladly give it to you, but you don’t ask. After all, if you keep doing the same things, you will keep getting the same results. OPEN YOUR EYES BELIZE!

Its not the governments fault that theres dust on your own veranda!!! Come on poverty is the peoples fault!!! If the people want the govmt to even lift up the spoon to feed them, then I can understand some people are left stranded, but its a shame most Belizeans are that lazy! By the way these statistcs arent factual!
