Ambassador comments on buses crossing border

Mario Velasquez

This morning, Ambassador of Mexico to Belize, Mario Velasquez, hosted the media at a breakfast at the Institute of Mexico. After he engaged the journalists in a discussion about current events, including elections and the UNIBAM case, Velasquez fielded questions from the media. We asked him for an update on the issue of Belizean buses crossing the Mexican Border at Subteniente Lopez. The Ambassador told News Five that discussions got underway this week between Mexican Transport Officials and the Ministry of Transport of Belize.

Mario Velasquez, Ambassador of Mexico to Belize

“We have different kinds of agreements for transport in the border line. In accordance with those agreements, we are confident; we are really concern about the climate change. It is very important to take out the pollution, contamination—different international regulations that in Mexico and Belize we are trying to follow them. For that reason we have from time to time had these kinds of conversation and agreements to agree how we are going to handle the transport ion the border lines. The transport coming from Mexico, the transport coming from Belize. Yesterday we had part of those conversations and we are going on the good way.”

Andrea Polanco

“The buses from Belize, they are able to go across the border still?”

Mario Velasquez

“Yes they are going there; just from time to time it is just necessary to review what is convenient to have. I was talking about pollution. What are you doing to taking out the pollution? We are talking about the insurance. Do you have insurance, do you have some troubles? What kind of insurance. So matters like that.”
