Elections Minister says aspirant did not belong in office

The Minister of Elections and Boundaries also had his opinions on the San Pedro incident. This morning John Saldivar made it clear to the media that Severo Guerrero Junior did not belong in the San Pedro Elections and Boundaries Office.

John Saldivar, Minister of Public Service, Governance Improvement, Elections & Boundaries & Sports

“He had no business being in that office. The officer that had him in there has certainly exercised a great indiscretion and that will be dealt with internally. But at the same time I want to say that him being in there could have and has not in any way compromised anything at all in the office because you’re just not able to have any influence or access to any change within the system. I need for the Belizean public to know that he was in there yes and in discretion on the part of the officer, but that nothing could have happened in there to compromise the election process.”

Jules Vasquez

“Do you buy the story that the administrator says he was there to fix the computer?”

“I haven’t heard any of the stories and like I’ve said categorically, he should not have been in there and we are dealing with the officer who had him in there. If you want me to repeat it again, there is nothing he could have done to compromise the system. The process through which someone is added or deleted from the voter’s list is one that involves the Court of Belize; involves the publishing of these names; involves the public knowing that these persons are going to be put on or not put on the list; involves going to the Court to argue before the Court why they should or should not be put on the list; involves an official publication which is available to all parties—political parties—all interested persons. So cannot just put or take someone off the list.”

No indication has been given as to whether aspiring town councilor; Guerrero will be barred from the upcoming municipal elections on March seventh.

  2. Transparency and Accountability says:

The buzz words of the UDP in 2008. Why have they disappeared in 2012?

  3. home grown says:

Looks like a landslide election is being made before the polls open.

Publish the results of who we voted for. Save us some time by not having to vote for a rigged election.

Regardless of this, the UDp will still win because the people have not forgotten…

Severo was not supposed to be there; correct. He had a pen and paper writing down names and addresses. Excuse me but how can copying names from a computer screen and writing on a piece of paper alter the voters list? Just my non partisan two cents because YES WHAT SEVERO DID WAS ABSOLUTELY WRONG but again some body please tell me “how can copying names from a computer screen and writing on a piece of paper alter the voters list?” I really want to know because what this dude was doing is very wrong and I just want to know the implications of his actions

@real. The reality is who knows what he could do on a computer in the middle of the night. Obviously he had a password to get into it. If at the same time Corruption Officers in Belmopan are working late talking to him on his cell phone, then the conspiracy teamwork could accomplish things hard to imagine. BTW, whatever happened to the late night international airport landings of immigrants, and those newly minted citizens who live at addresses that they have never been seen at? Unfortunately elections coming and the Corruption Officers had to stop airport work because they need to take care of business with the election computers which means more long hard late night work away from their families.

If you want more corruption if you want another 160 murders this year and another next year then please vote for udp vote barrow if you want thief.

@ home grown ….you obviously don’t have your story straight. The images were taken sometime btwn 7 and 8 pm that nite and furthermore until u know what really did happen and you know what is the process for adding and deleting someone to and from the voters list then you may comment….

Point well said, I don’ know what happened, and it appears no one else will except those who need to know are going to find out. I believe EVERYTHING the government tells me, pick your flavor.

Got my times confused with the late night workers in Belmopan or a later shift of corruption officers. So you can tell me when he left sometime between 8 and sunrise? Did he bring a meal? Where you there and saw it all? Are you part of it?

As for altering computer records, what about banks that have been hacked into? Their security has not been so good, and they have a lot more people on it than the GOB. Having direct unauthorized access to a GOB computer WOULD give me unprecedented opportunity to overcome security measures to perform WHO KNOWS WHAT? And if I had a fellow conspirator in Belmopan who had similar access not during REGULAR BUSINESS Hours we could elect whomever or have a billion dollar check authorized, at some point somebody is going to notice the big stuff but not the small stuff.

To sum Schettino, I know more about computer security than you can imagine, clearly you believe everything you are told with no exceptions. But to make it easier for you to understand, the perceived impartial credibility of the election board has been undermined by an elected official.
Maybe you are ok with that, but I am not and will continue to.comment as I see fit within the judgement of the ch5 moderator.
