Vision Inspired by the People Belmopan Council slate

Late last week, Marlon Skeen, stepped down as mayoral candidate for the Belmopan based Vision Inspired by the People.  But by this morning, VIP introduced its new mayoral candidate and aspiring councilors for the upcoming March seventh elections.  The event took place in Belmopan and News Five’s Jose Sanchez was there.

Earlier today Vision Inspired by the People has launched its Belmopan City Council slate. The VIP had better voter turnout than the PUP in the last municipal election, which was won by the UDP. The team is being led by mayoral candidate Paul Morgan.

“Here are our ideas and if you give us the opportunity, we shall put them into effect and the benefits will accrue to all of us and to our next generations. Friends, the questions that many voters pose to us are rather reasonable when we understand the pain our brothers and sisters are feeling having been hurt over and over by politicians who they had trusted. What makes you different from the others they ask? Why should we trust you? Give us good reason to vote for you they demand. So friends, this team understands well that such questions spring from a total loss of trust in politicians and trust in the current political process that offers Belizeans little representation and no respect. Well if they would only know that we in this team hurt even more inside. We hurt so badly that even fear of political victimization has been totally erased from our minds. We have been numb to this. So go forward we will. We have character and we have citizenship and that is the first reason to have confidence in this team.”

Kamil Espat

The political aspirants, though new to politics, put their best foot forward as they announced their intentions.

Kamil Espat, VIP, Councillor Candidate

“I am against all forms of political discrimination which condemns a person because of his political preference. This city is for all of us who lives her; not for those from the main political parties whose rooms have only fitted a selected few. We the citizens of Belmopan are long tired of this kind of administration and have found a way to express this through the  citizens organization that has clearly demonstrated that it has left behind the shackles of narrow party politics.”

Rajah Cuevas, VIP, Councillor Candidate

“I’m running for councilor for the VIP along with my slate. Progress and prosperity comes only by making changes so as a brave resident of Belmopan, I Rajah Cuevas, humbly ask all residents of Belmopan for their vote come March 7th, 2012 for a three year term in office. I am a strong and dedicated community activist in terms of sports. I will ensure that all Belmopanees inside and out will have fair advantage of each and every sport—football, basketball, volleyball and any other events.”

Elvira Brown

Elvira Brown, VIP, Councillor Candidate

“I represent the people of this city. I am a voice for the children—I am an early childhood educator that I am so proud of and I have been living in this city for many years. This morning, I would like to humbly avail myself and declare my council candidacy for the VIP City Council slate for you the Belmopan electorate.”

Landy Cal, VIP, Councillor Candidate

“I am now convinced that my word would satisfy those I serve and my word must not only have value but also quality. My livelihood today is as a self-employed carpenter. Here in Belmopan in order to do well in my business, I must mix quality with quantity to produce a superior product. My interest in politics has been in my heart from boyhood.”

Andrew Williams

Andrew Williams, VIP, Councillor Candidate

“I decided to put my money and my time where my mouth is and instead of complaining about it, I decided to step up. So as I put in one of my paper that you would see around Belmopan City, I didn’t say Shut up on it, I put step up basically meaning that instead of complaining, get up and do something about it. I have decided to jump in—legs and arms and everything here and get Belmopan again.”

Paul Morgan

“Our goal is to revive Belmopan with new ideas. The vision we set out to achieve is a Belmopan growing in harmony with nature in an atmosphere of lifelong learning; a Belmopan where families prosper in happy neighborhoods; where democracy and free enterprise thrives and a Belmopan that serves as the proud seat of our Belizean national government.”

March seventh will determine whether there is a future for the VIP in Belmopan. Reporting for News Five, Jose Sanchez.
