7 persons charged for gun possession

Orlando Reyes

A group of seven, including two women, appeared before Magistrate Sharon Frazer today for the possession of a loaded nine millimeter Luger brand pistol. The weapon and ammunition were found inside a vehicle they were traveling in on the Northern Highway on Saturday morning.  Earl Gill and Jamie Young, both residents of Sand Hill Village, Orlando Reyes, Kevin Vacarro, Janine Henry, Atany Middleton, as well as a minor, were seated inside a silver Infiniti when a search of the vehicle was conducted.  The seven were charged with Kept Firearm and Ammunition without a Gun License.  In court this morning Reyes, a self-employed resident of Mahogany Street, took the rap and pleaded guilty to the charges.  Magistrate Frazer imposed a sentence of five years for each count on Reyes.  Prosecutor, Sergeant Hector Rodriguez informed the court that the charges brought against the remaining occupants of the vehicle would not be withdrawn and that the Director of Public Prosecutions will be consulted on the matter.  Meanwhile, all six will be remanded to the Belize Central Prison if they aren’t granted bail by the Supreme Court.  Reyes, however, began serving two concurrent five-year terms today.
