Belmopan resident killed in a 3 vehicle pile up

A terrible traffic accident is reported on the Western Highway. It happened before six this evening and it is reliably reported that a resident of Belmopan was killed. A News Five team is at the scene and we can say tonight that three vehicles were involved; a passenger bus, a gas truck and a private pickup truck with Belmopan license plates.  According to one report from the scene, the pickup truck flipped several times near mile twenty-eight. There is a lot of debris at the scene and just before news time, the body of the victim was still trapped in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.  We’ll have further details on Wednesday’s newscast.

  1. RT in Vegas says:

Road safety is a big problem in Belize. From what I have heard, the truck was diable on road with little or no warning lights. Too bad it cost someone their life.

wonder who is the person that died from bmp?

I actually drove back from Belmopan yesterday evening and saw the buss and my friends even said “wow that is going to cause an accident” and now look. I was born in Belize but raised in the U.S. and I have been here for two weeks now and I can say that is is so sad that this country has horrible roads and codes regarding traffic. I don’t understand how it can be this way, even in mainland towns like orange walk, roads are in desperate need or repair and this country needs to do sidewalks and build better roads in general. Who is in charge of this? how many accidents need to occur before they get a move on it. Road safety is such a proble,m like RT in Vegas said, but it’s one that can be avoided. There needs to be a better transportation and road department. It’s a shame that Mexico (Chetumoal) which is only an hour away, has superb road safety, almost comparable to that of the U.S. yet Belize is lacking so bad. it seems the people here don’t care for their own country, littering all over the place, lack of proper housing care. so many things that can be avoided or fixed yet no one seems to care so Belize remains a third world country and behind in times… when there is no need for any of it.
