Price’s memory lives on

George Price

The nation prepares to say farewell to the Father of the nation, Right Honorable George Price. Around the country, flags are flying at half-mast as messages of condolences continue to pour from all over in honor of the national hero who passed away on Monday after a relatively short period of hospitalization. The body of the ninety-two year old Leader Emeritus of the People’s United Party will lie in state at the Bliss Center on Saturday and then at the George Price Center for Peace and Development in Belmopan on Sunday. From what we gather, the Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Haroldo Rodas, is among those who will be in Belmopan for the Independence Hill ceremony on Monday. Others include Sydney Collie from the Bahamas and Neville Grainger from the Caribbean Development Bank. Later in the newscast we’ll have a full schedule of this weekend’s coverage of the state funeral.

To the fallen father of our beautiful jewel call Belize, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your leadership, vision and determination in making Belize an independent nation. As a young man growing up, I was pleasantly surprised to see you Mr. Price picking up litter from the sidewalks of Belmopan, as I made my way to school each morning. What a blessing, hero and giant, yet humble person that you were for the country of Belize. As you depart, let us all celebrate your accomplishments and legacy for the country of Belize. In addition, let us go out and volunteer, help one another and be of service to others, not through words, but rather through our deeds. May God continue to bless our country Belize and all its inhabitants.
