Espinosa gets 5 years for robbing a taxi driver

Thirty-five year old Shane Espinosa, a Mechanic and a resident of Doris Brooks Street in Belize City was today sentenced to five years imprisonment when he appeared before Magistrate Emerson Banner.  Espinosa is accused of robbing Taxi Driver, Earl Smith on February first, 2011 while at the Pound Yard taxi stand. He relieved the cab driver of a cell phone and cash.  Smith testified at trial that Espinosa, who he knew for fifteen years by the name Shanie Mack, approached him and asked him about the whereabouts of another man known as Stamma. Smith said Espinosa asked him to take him to Kraal Road and then to the Booths Crescent area.  And that’s where Espinoza instructed him to turn off his engine and hand over his belongings. Fearing for his life, Smith complied and Espinosa fled the area. Espinosa’s five year jail term begins today. He has two other convictions for robbery and additional convictions for theft and damage to property.
