N.C.F.C. holds contest to help children express themselves

Story PictureIf you are looking for an easy way to earn some cash and do some good at the same time, we’ve got just the thing. In anticipation of International Children’s Day of Broadcasting on December ninth, the National Committee for Families and Children is sponsoring an art competition entitled, “The World as We See It.” This afternoon Programme Coordinator, Stephanie Daniels gave us the contest details.

Stephanie Daniels, Programme Coordinator
“What we are looking for is teams of two: an adult and a child to submit two entries. We are asking the adult to reflect on the Belizean situation and to capture that under the Belize they have and we are asking the child to dream of the world they would want for themselves. While we are appreciating the artistic nature of these pieces, we are also hoping that the discussion will highlight how children’s rights can bridge the gap between what we have and what we would want for children. So these entries can be in the form of paintings, drawings, collages, computer generated art, or a combination of all of these. The guidelines are fairly simple. We are asking for the pieces to be original and for it to be submitted along with a three hundred word description of the entry.”

Submissions should be dropped off at the N.C.F.C. office at 62 Cleghorn Street by five p.m. on December fourth. Prizes range from a thousand dollars in cash and gift certificates for first place to five hundred dollars for best in category. The competition is sponsored by UNDP with assistance from the Image Factory.
