‘Forever Young’ busted with under-aged seafood

The Belize Coast Guard Forwarding Operating Base at Calabash Caye was on a routine patrol in the Turneffe Atolls on Saturday, when they encountered Mexican skiff.  With pun intended, a search of the vessel named Forever Young led to the discovery of two ice boxes containing two hundred and fifty-five young lobster tails, four hundred and sixty-four out-of-season individual conchs, and ninety-nine sea cucumbers which were harvested without a valid permit from the Fisheries Department.  On board the vessel at the time were twenty-three year old Nicole Tun and thirty year old Sylvia Tillett both of Belize City. The women, their vessel, as well as the confiscated items were handed over to the Fisheries Department.  Tun and Tillett are expected to appear in court to answer the charges. The Belize Coast Guard is hereby advising the fishing communities to adhere to the Fisheries Regulations to improve and increase sustainability of the marine population.

I agree, jail time, and confiscate the boat. I believe there is a huge fine per tail, and per conch, I doubt even the boat value will cover it.
However, they will probably get off lightly, sending the message that it is OK to rape the reef….
