Wesley Emmanuel to stand trial for 2008 murder of Emilio Gomez

Wesley Emmanuel

Wesley Emmanuel has been in prison for about three years, following the murder of Emilio Orlando Gomez in June 2008. Last December, Emmanuel had a brief taste of freedom after the Director of Public Prosecution’s office entered a nolle prosequi in the case.  But the smile that comes with freedom was cut short as he was handcuffed once again as he exited the court. The murder charge was reinstated against Emmanuel, and today Justice Adolph Lucas ruled that he will have to stand trial at the Supreme Court, starting on September twenty-second. Gomez was transporting a bulldozer along with Cornelius Schmitt on June thirteenth, 2008 when their truck was pulled over by three men posing as police officers. Gomez and Schmitt were escorted to a car that was parked nearby and were then driven to an area off the Coastal Road. Schmitt was shot three times while Gomez was strangled with his belt. After the incident, Emmanuel and twenty-two year old Jessie Jones Ochoa were jointly charged with Murder and Attempted Murder. During trial in December 2010, Ochoa was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
