Cruise lines spread Christmas cheer

Story PictureEach year around this time the Belize Tourism Board teams up with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association to make Christmas a little merrier for some of the city’s children. According to the B.T.B.’s Keesha Young, this year’s party, complete with gifts, was well attended.

Keesha Young, Product Development Officer, B.T.B.
“Usually we cater to about two hundred kids. We had a little bit more in the budget this year and we decided to stretch it a bit and so we have about three fifty this year with us.”

“You also have some people from the Norweigan Cruise Line?”

“Every year the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association collaborates with us and we have this party for needy kids in the area. As you know they’re responsible for bringing all the Cruise Ships to Belize and they have programmes that try to give back to these communities. So we work together with them to try to do all the logistics on the ground and we invite the kids and we have a party for them. We basically send out invitations to all the constituencies and they give out invitations to kids who they think are needy kids.”

Young says about four thousand U.S. dollars worth of toys was donated by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association. By the way, those “constituencies” referred to that received invitations to send children, were the constituency offices of the People’s United Party.
