Nettie Christian wants to meet biological mother, Sandra Aguilar

Nettie Christian

Eighteen years ago, a couple from California, USA spent time in Belize teaching at Kings College. The couple did not leave only with photos and wonderful memories; they left the country with two babies they adopted. Don Christian and his adopted daughter, Nettie, have returned to Belize to visit old friends but there is a specific reason. Nettie, now eighteen years old, wishes to meet her birth mother. The Christians have lost touch with Sandra Aguilar and between today and Sunday they hope to find her so she can meet her daughter. News Five spoke to Don Christian and Nettie who also brought an old photo of Aguilar hoping either she or someone who knows her is watching this story.

Don Christian, Looking for Sandra Aguilar

Don Christian

“We came to Belize in 1991. I taught at King’s College on the old Northern Highway for two years. While we were there, we adopted two new born babies and one of them we had contact with the birth mother and we exchanged letters for a while and then we lost contact. Now we want to reestablish contact and now we are visiting Belize for this week and hope we can get in touch with her. Birth mother’s name is Sandra Aguilar and our daughter, Nettie, was born in Belmopan and we met Sandra through the clinic in San Ignacio Cayo.”

Jose Sanchez

“So essentially she just wants to know the one who gave her birth?”

Don Christian

“We definitely want Nettie to have a chance to meet her birth mother –it’s something that she really wants to do and we think Sandra probably wants to meet Nettie as well.”

Nettie Christian, Seeking Contact with Birth Mother

“Ever since I was very little, I have seen pictures of her and I’ve heard a lot about Belize and I always wanted to come back here and meet my family and see where my siblings grew up and where my mom lives and I really want to meet her.”

Jose Sanchez

“Even being in Belize, do you see faces that look familiar that they can be relatives and friends?”

Nettie Christian

“Yeah I do. From where I’m from, there is mostly a white community—there’s not very many people that are my race or close to it. So I kinda felt like withdrawn for the most part and I wanted to see how the culture was compared to America.”

Jose Sanchez

“Is it safe to say you still found a second home, but its nw just time to find your mother?”

Nettie Christian

“Yeah, yeah. Definitely.”

The family can be reached at email address .  If you know the whereabouts of Sandra Aguilar, messages for the Christians can also be left with Kings College or the Biltmore Hotel.

Sandra Aguilar is in San Ignacio, you can ask anyone here and they will know her. Be advised that her mental and medical condition is not so good tho.
