Dangriga hold-up may be an inside job

Story PictureMeanwhile, in an update to Thursday afternoon’s fatal shooting in Dangriga, tonight there are disturbing reports that the robbery may have been an inside job. According to police, in one of the gunman’s pockets they found a page torn from an exercise book. Listed on the paper was a full description of the truck, including its colour and the license plate numbers as well as a full description of SanCas employee Melvin Torres, right down to what he was wearing that day. In addition, cops say there was a list of the stores that the delivery truck usually visited in Dangriga. Around three on Thursday afternoon Torres, a money collector, was on Commerce Street when he was accosted by two men armed with a handgun. Torres pretended to reach for the cash bag but instead pulled out his licensed nine millimetre handgun and fired a single shot. The bullet hit the assailant in the chest and he died on the street. The victim was later identified as nineteen year old Kevin Flores, a resident of Mahogany Heights. Investigators say while several people have been interrogated, Flores’ accomplice is still at large. This afternoon, Chief Executive Officer of the San Cas Group, Santino Castillo, informed us that the company is now conducting its own internal investigation into the robbery.

Ironically, as we spoke with Castillo, reports of another hold-up involving a SanCas delivery truck were coming in. Around four this evening employees dropping off orders in Ladyville were held up by two armed men. The driver had no money on him and fortunately, the robbers were content to leave empty handed.
