National Sports Council to decide on F.F.B.

The Football Federation of Belize’s national selection is preparing to head to San Pedro Sula, Honduras for the return game against Montserrat but before it leaves, the National Sports Council will determine the status of the F.F.B.  On Thursday, the F.F.B. got the news from FIFA headquarters in Switzerland that the body temporarily lifted a suspension paving the way for match which will not be played at the F.F.B. stadium in Belmopan but at the Estadio Olympico on July fourteenth. It’s a huge deal for the local team because the game is a pre-qualifier for World Cup 2014 and many of the players have been waiting to play for the World Cup. The odds are in favor of Belize given the trouncing it put on Montserrat at the first game. But will Belize move on were it to win round two against Montserrat? On the home front, the F.F.B. and the National Sports Council continue to buck heads. The NSC has already decertified the F.F.B. claiming it failed to register and present its statute.  The F.F.B. is seeking constitutional redress and was back in court this afternoon on an injunction against the NSC. But Justice Minnet Hafiz, however, determined that there was no point to the hearing since the National Sports Council is scheduled to meet on the issue this Saturday. If indeed it does, the council will be discussing the FFBs status now that it has delivered its 2010 statues. That is believed to have been the “positive developments” that FIFA referred to in its release announcing that the ban had been lifted. But the Ministry of Sports has issued its own release, saying that FIFA was misled on what transpired in a previous court hearing on June twenty-seventh when Justice Hafiz asked the F.F.B. and the NSC to settle out of court. Meanwhile, FIFA has given the F.F.B. and NSC up until August fifteenth to sort out their differences or the suspension will be automatically reinstated.
