Marcel Cardona, unaffiliated, but challenges government

Marcel Cardona

Now back to today’s House sitting. Marcel Cardona, the area representative for Orange Walk East, made a second appearance since he was dumped by the U.D.P. There was little debate in the House, but Cardona, now unaffiliated, was not quiet with his view on the re-nationalization. Call it unbridled emotion or whatever you like; Cardona supplied Opposition from the second row of the House Chambers.

Marcel Cardona, Unaffiliated

“How can it be if the court of appeal declares that the government’s forced takeover of B.T.L. in 2009 was illegal and unconstitutional and the therefore the government’s actions were null and void from the beginning and yet using the power of state and the power of the security forces such as the police—the government is seeking to continue to unlawfully dispossess the lawful owners and directors of Belize Telemedia Limited? Such actions Mister Speaker is clearly wrong and illegal as government has no lawful grounds to do so and even the government succeeds in passing the proposed law to renationalize Belize Telemedia Limited, then the government’s actions from Friday June 24th 2011, immediately after the delivery of action by the Court of Appeal, to date must clearly be wrong and illegal. As government would have had absolutely no legal basis to forcefully deprive the lawful owners and awfully constituted board of directors—being to so-called Ashcroft controlled board—from what was rightfully and legally their property. For these reasons, I humbly cannot support the current bill. I cannot support, I cannot support this current bill, but neither shall I vote against it. And in reply (outburst from gallery) Mister Speaker, before I sit down, I wish to state for the record and this is directed to the Prime Minister, for the record, if the people of Orange Walk East elected me, if you want me out, call elections now! Call elections now! You have the power! Call it now! Call elections now!!”

  1. Voice of the People says:

Cardona Can’t make a stance which is pitiful. Its because he can’t admit he is wrong because of his pride and scared to go against the people’s choice of nationalization.

  2. Elgin Martinez says:

Cardona has a right to express his opinion that’s what democracy is about.

  3. BELIZEAN says:

Cardona is the reason UDP got majority votes at the town council they thank him by kicking him out, outcasting him, as what they will do with castro and john saldivar..just watch, barrow almost had castro on sunday..go ask him and his camp, i will leave it at that, Voice of the people, your representing the voice of ..not this people…come elections you will see who is right from wrong…i stand behind cardona, its about how we are going about arrogantly changing laws and sending a baaddd chavez message worldwide..not the without privatization could you or dean barrow be able to bring these companies to the standard it is now, if you or him were managing it from then, nationally?

  4. BELIZEAN says:

when cardona decided not to take part in udp politics, the east boxes on elections were short of a full udp town council victory and that is where the loss started..and is the backbenchers in both parties that tell us the truth, and where we should stand, it is the backbencher then that stand up for the people when the people don’t know better from being blinded by lies….just plain ignorant…!

UDP backbenchers and the PUP G7 have my respect…..there..!
