Pollers prefer candle light to higher electricity bill

The future of B.E.L. continues to evolve so we asked consumers if they would prefer to pay higher rates and avoid power outages. Seventy-eight percent of voters on our e-poll said no to increased electricity bills while only twenty-two percent are prepared to make the sacrifice. Most of the persons who commented on our blog expressed that their bills are already high and that consumers should not have to suffer because of B.E.L.’s problems. One person said that “it’s not my fault they went bankrupt or they failed to make to a good profit; I’ve been paying my portion, which is my light bill.”

It’s ridiculous to hear that B.E.L is bankrupt. What’s happening to all the money collected. Electricity is outrageously high especially here in San Pedro Town. Bills are very high already, and the PUC should not allow this company to put higher prices. The people are already suffering with all the mishadling of utilities and Gov’t taxes already. Everything is so expensive. These privately owned companies collect so much money every month from everybody, because it’s a must. We have no alternative. Electricity is cut immediately just like WASA and the telephone company when bills are not paid in time;so where is all the revenue going? If it’s private? is all the money going abroad? something is definately wrong. San Pedro is the most expensive town in Belize to live in. No higher rates! it’s ridiculous!

Owners of BEL should learn to prioritize their spending…instead of lavish lifestyles pay your bills with the money you receive from us Belizeans. The same way Belizeans budget their paychecks at the end of the month…Pay light bill, water, food, phone bill and transportation…and stash the change for when “hard-time” or “maaga season” hit. We learn to tighten our belts why can’t these big companies do the same. The paycheck already slim so why we have to shave off more to feed these “money hungry” people’s appetite.
