Burglars steal three guns from Fisheries office …

Story PicturePolice and government officials are investigating how thieves could have gotten into the Fisheries Department headquarters on Princess Margaret Drive and stolen three licensed handguns. The break-in occurred around eight last night during a heavy downpour. Fisheries security guard, fifty-seven year old Ronnie Castillo, told police that he was sheltering from the rain in the back area of the compound when he heard a noise coming from inside the building. When he went inside to check he saw two masked men, one armed with a gun, the other with a knife. A third man then attacked him from behind, placed something at his head and ordered him to remain still. The trio stole a bunch of keys to the office, tied up Castillo with telephone wire and made him lie face down in the bathroom.

It took him about an hour to free himself and when he did, he discovered that his attackers had broken into four of the Fisheries offices on the second floor. They had pried open the lock to the reception area, then broke through the glass that separated that area from the offices. Once there, the burglars removed a safe which contained the three nine millimeter pistols. They also stole a computer and other items. The guns are used by Fisheries personnel when patrolling for illegal activity at sea. Police say they have no leads at this point but are questioning a number of people.

In a separate incident, a Neal’s Penn Road resident has been charged with Possession of Unlicensed Firearm and Ammunition. This was after a search of his house yielded a Rossi brand point thirty eight revolver loaded with four live rounds of ammunition. The youth charged is eighteen year old Denfield Tasher.
