Brothers cop a plea in big jewellery heist

Two brothers have pleaded guilty to Handling Stolen Goods following the start of their trial on the more serious charge of Burglary. Thirty-six year old Wilwood Pinto and thirty-two year old Brian Pinto made their plea bargain decision after eight witnesses had testified for the prosecution. The crime in question involved a September 2006 break-in at the Jewels of India booth at the Fort Street Tourism Village in which thirty thousand dollars worth of cameras, cell phones and jewelry was taken. Although most of the stolen items were not recovered, the police did find some of them in the possession of the Pinto brothers. Justice Herbert Lord has set sentencing for February eleventh. The maximum penalty at the Supreme Court level for Handling Stolen Property is fourteen years in prison.
