Putt-Putt case still simmers

Story PictureWhile the Lee case is dominating the headlines, the issue of the Putt Putt Bar and Grill’s liquor license is still simmering on the back burner. But the latest development is that there are no developments in the case.

Leila Peyrefitte, City Councillor, External Revenue
“Mr. Elrington has given me his word that he will not open Putt-Putt. He does open for lunch and he has given me his word that he will continue to open for lunch but he will not be selling liquor.

Janelle Chanona
“So he’s in operation but he definitely does not have a liquor license.”

Leila Peyrefitte
“He does not have a license. His requirement, he has to soundproof Putt-Putt in order to get his license. I spoke to him he explained to me that he would like to continue to sell food and he has given me his word that he will not be conducting any sale of liquor and he will not be opening for business until he gets his license.”

Adrian “Danny” Madrid, Chair, Liquor Licensing Board
“We are not saying that we will not give him a license but the board up to today has not made a decision to give him a license. So he doesn’t have a license, alright. And one of the main things why we want to make the correct decision is that the mayor of Belize City is a member of this board and to avoid any problems which, because we just do things a little bit different and it’s a lot of noise. But I must say the mayor did not attend any of the meetings and if I call a meeting today to look after Putt-Putt, the Mayor is not in the country and whenever we have meetings, there is no representation from the council, she doesn’t appoint nobody to represent her on the board so it makes the situation even harder for us to make the best decisions for people.”

According to Madrid they also expect Elrington to hold down the volume of his music until the soundproofing is installed.
