Three sexual assaults reported by police

A teenager riding alone in the early morning hours of Friday has reported being raped. According to the seventeen year old, she was in the Mosul Street/West Canal area of Belize City when something hit her in the head. The girl says when she fell to the ground a tall man approached her, dragged her into a yard and had sex with her against her will.

While no one has been arrested in connection with that report, police have charged a Gales Point villager following another minor’s statement to authorities. Investigations have led police to twenty-eight year old Leon Perez who has since been charged with one count of Carnal Knowledge.

Meanwhile disturbing reports out of Dangriga are that the same man who has been accused for sexually molesting two of his daughters is facing a new charge for assaulting a third offspring. In the company of her mother, the eight year old has told police that while at her father’s house between March twenty-seventh and twenty-eighth, he sexually assaulted her. As we reported last week, two other daughters, aged eight and ten, have alleged that between January and April, the accused similarly abused them. To protect the children we cannot identify the individual. Magistrate Clive Lino initially granted him bail of eight thousand dollars after arraigning him on two counts of Incest, one count of an Unnatural Crime and one count of Indecent Assault. The accused reappeared before Lino today where he was formally charged with another count of Indecent Assault. Lino opted to offer bail again, this time in the amount of two thousand dollars. Sources in Dangriga tell News Five that children from the first case are now in the care of their grandparents as the accused is a single father. All three girls are receiving counseling through the Human Services Department.
