Castillo Group rebuilds and adopts Highway Bus Stop

Commuters heading north of Belize City can now wait for transport in the comfort of a newly built bus stop on the Northern Highway near Palotti High School.  For several weeks passengers have stomached the inconvenience of waiting under a small makeshift shed while the construction of modern facility was underway.  The project, which costs an estimated sixty thousand dollars, is the brainchild of the marketing department at Santiago Castillo Ltd.  Brand manager Cassie Castillo told us how the idea came about.

“We have a lot of people that work for us that are commuters, they commute from the north and we’ve constantly been hearing complaints that the bus stop has been in not such a great condition, you know.  The area is never clean.  The seats aren’t nice so that’s where the original idea came up for us to adopt the bus stop.  We contacted the city council, we gave them the idea [and] of course they loved the idea [of] anything building the community for the betterment of the country is forward for them noh.  So we went ahead and we adopted it and we collaborated along with Concept Studios and RG Welding and in a matter of two months here we are today.”

“This bus stop has been here for many years and it stands right across from our San Cas Plaza.  I myself am a commuter and I see it as a very busy place and it has the need for it to provide a very good bus stop here.  And so with putting the idea to the board here they right away went ahead and like nothing this is what you see here.  So it’s an effort coming in from the board of course with the staff giving up the idea of what we want to do here.”

Cassia Castillo

“We adopted the facility for a period of ten years at which point we will go over all the contracts with the City Council to see if we will continue to adopt it from there.  But of course we love doing this type of community service.  It’s good for us also because it’s a way for us to get our brand out there [and] people can get more familiar with our lines.”

Commuters are encouraged to exercise civic pride by participating in the upkeep of the bus stop.

Whatever happened to Animal Park? Didn’t San Cas “adopt” that park a couple of years ago?

A ray of hope amidst the gloom of crime, corruption and violence. And yet, the same day the bus stop is inaugurated, it is vandalized by a senseless narrow-minded piece of $h!t. Like I said, for every 2 steps forward, we take 10 backwards!!!!!!!!! SMM-FH!!!

nice job!…..we need more business who can afford it to participate in this way, but most importantly as Cassia puts it, for people to Practice Civic Pride, that is especially lacking in this country sadly

Great job & hopefully because it is in a very visible location, it will not be vandalized. It is just a handful of people that are destructive, we need to start having convicted felons who are not escape threats come out under supervision & clean up or repair public property & streets.
