Unusual late night prison transfer of detained Mexican National

Jose Luis Robles Beltran

It’s common for prisoners to be transferred from the districts to Belize City or the Central Prison, but when it happens in the dead of night, well that’s a different story. And that was the case with former Mexican Soldier, Jose Luis Robles Beltran, who was in the custody of the Corozal Police until a directive was issued late Wednesday night to transfer him to the Orange Walk station. From there, Robles was brought to Belize City and this morning he was behind bars at Hattieville. News Five contacted the Officer in Charge of the Corozal Police, Superintendent Miguel Guzman, to find out about Robles’ midnight transfer. But he says he was simply following a directive from the Commissioner of Police. There are unconfirmed reports circulating that the order was made because a group of Mexican nationals were intending to bust Robles out of the Corozal holding cell and take him back across the border. Just on Wednesday Supreme Court Justice Adolph Lucas ordered that Robles be remanded to the Belize Central prison pending his appeal hearing for a firearm and ammunition conviction after he was busted in the Corozal Freezone with a loaded point twenty-five caliber Beretta Pistol. He also had twenty thousand US dollars and eighteen hundred turned out to be fake. His release was ordered despite a guilty plea, but Justice Lucas also quashed that decision by Corozal Magistrate Clive Lino and ordered a retrial, which will be held on April nineteenth.

Now does anyone still believe that this was just a lowly soldier in the Mexican Army who was so good with money that he had this kind of change in his pocket?

  2. Storm says:

Too many irregularities in this case — this defendant needs to be closely and intensely questioned about his connections and affiliates, and whether any officials in Belize are “in business” with him.

Dont hang the man (Lino) people…… What would YOU do if you were threatened by one of the most feared mexican drug cartels?? if they tell you….. “ensure you set him free or you and your entire family will be massacred” and you know they have the will, firepower and moneypower… to just do that….. and more…

Do you honestly think the Belize Police force could protect Lino and his family if he is on the hit list of the Mexican SICARIOS???

26,000 people killed in mexico last year…. thanks to the drug war……and to the constant flow of heavy firepower from the US…. Thanks gringos……. Your insatiable apetite for drugs and your lax gun control policies are to blame!!!!
