No peace yet in P.U.P. convention dispute

When we last tuned in to the continuing soap opera called the Peoples’ United Party, the losing candidate for the party’s leadership, Francis Fonseca, had written to leader Johnny Briceño declining his offer of a post on the new executive unless Briceño first called a meeting of the current executive. When we checked in with the Briceño camp this afternoon we were surprised to learn that the leader had not yet even received the letter and claimed to have first learned its contents last night on TV. Be that as it may, there seems to be little enthusiasm on that side for the requested pre-convention meeting and they are now focusing on preparations for this Sunday in Orange Walk. While a few former standard bearers are talking boycott, delegates from every constituency are expected to attend. According to P.U.P. Secretary General Henry Usher, the delegate list for Sunday is virtually the same as last month’s convention, although constituency chairmen and standard bearers have the power to submit new lists and some minor substitutions have already been made.
