Government halts prepayments to U.H.S.

It was a key part of the deal under which private operators agreed to purchase Universal Health Services, but government is now saying that it will no longer pay U.H.S. a flat three hundred thousand dollars per month up front for public medical services. That declaration was made in a press release issued today by the Government Press Office. The release claimed that of the last three hundred thousand dollars, paid by the Musa administration for February, eighty-two thousand went toward the hospital’s administrative expenses. Government alleges that such expenditures were not part of its agreement with U.H.S. A hospital spokesman confirmed to News Five that the new government has not made any pre-payments since taking office although the release did confirm that Belmopan will continue to pay for dialysis treatments for those patients already receiving such services under the terms agreed to by the previous administration.
