Son of slain businessman is a person of interest in investigation

Fifty-three year old naturalized Belizean, Bing Chang Zhao, was stabbed to death inside his business, Ming Ming Shop at the corner of Vernon Street and Magazine Road over the weekend.  His body was discovered by his son, who was detained and then released pending further investigations. But on Tuesday night, a member of the Chinese Association told the media that Zhao’s son was no longer a suspect in the police investigations.  Today, Police Press Officer, Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood set the record straight.

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer

Fitzroy Yearwood

“I know that our investigators have listed the son of the deceased—this is in connection with the murder that took place at the corner of Magazine Road where a fifty-three year old Chinese businessman lost his life. His son has been listed as a person of interest. Nothing has been changed. We will continue to interview him. We have made a choice of changing interpreter in this case and we are trying our best to establish motive and possible suspect. I know that in my release, I stated and I will repeat that investigators on the scene saw no visible signs of breaking and entering. So I just want to clear that up because I don’t know where he got his information from. But the official story is the son of the deceased is still listed as a person of interest in this murder investigation.”

“Was that the same person who found his father dead?”

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

“Allegedly found his father dead. He said that he found his father. We are still trying to verify his version of what happened on the scene.”

Every time I read about a murder I am disappointed. While I can understand that the Chinese Association may not want their image tarnished, I hope they cooperate with the police in this investigation & let the chips fall where they may. Unsolved murders only add to the fear that is holding our country hostage.

On the last newscast concerning this matter, the president of the chinese association took over the investigation and was judge, jury and defender of the victim’s son. Answering media queries, deciding who was suspect in the murder, analizing the crime scene, etc……. WOW!!!!!, what power these chinese wields all of a sudden!!!
