Unoccupied house goes up in flames; Fire Service says it’s arson

There was fire in the old capital early this morning.  Flames gutted the small structure which belonged to Rudolph Anderson, better known as Sir Andie, the happy home builder. No one lived inside the structure at the corner of Waight Street and Faber’s Road. The National Fire Service believes the cause of the fire is arson because this morning’s call to out the flames at the structure is the second in five days.

Michael Middleton, Operations Officer, National Fire Service

Michael Middleton

“This morning at 5:43, we received a call of a fire at the corner of Waight Street and Faber’s Road. We responded and we found the wooden structure fully engulfed in flames. We got into operation to extinguish the fire. The house was unoccupied at the time. The owner is one Sir Andie from off Baymen Avenue. But this fire we tend to believe that it was a fire that has been set because we responded to this same house on the sixth of March sometime after one in the morning. When we got there, we found two separate fires burning inside the house—one inside the hall and the other fire burning in one of the bedrooms. And then one week after now, the same house is on fire and completely destroyed.”

Jose Sanchez

“Have you any indication on whether or not the house was insured?”

Michael Middleton

“We have not spoken to Sir Andie yet, but our investigations will determine that later on.”

Jose Sanchez

“How about after the first fire, have you spoken to him about what contents or any value of the house? Was he interested?”

Michael Middleton

“At that time, again we didn’t speak to Sir Andie, but we entered the building and there were no contents inside the house. We knew it was unoccupied.”

Jose Sanchez

“So arson was the motive at least at this point?”

Michael Middleton

“Definitely we would say that. We leave it now to the police to carry out their investigation to find the person or persons who have lit that house.”
