Christian Workers’ Union strike of Social Security Board still possible

The strike action by employees of the Social Security Board can take place any time after the long weekend.  A meeting between the President of the Christian Workers’ Union, Antonio Gonzalez and the Ministry of Labour this week ended with no definitive way forward.  A meeting is also expected to take place between the Ministry and representatives of the Social Security Board.  But according to Gonzalez, unless the Minister himself intervenes, the strike action remains on course.  Up to the end of today, the impasse over the salary raise and benefits had not been solved. In fact, there is now a claim that the Social Security Board is changing its employment injury policy so that workers injured while on their way to and from work in vehicles not owned by their employers would not be able to claim benefits.

SOCIAL SECURITY DA A THIEF’. THEY ALREADY SPEND FI WE $50 MILLION IN BTL,now they want to come with excuses,so who di benefit from the $50 million investment in BTL? of course not US,ONLY BARROW AND HIS CRONIES. BARROW DA A THIEF TOO”.

Look guys, there was no bail -out in BTL, Its an investment, and SSB will see returns.
As to Antonio Gonzalez of the CWU, he is a relic long past his days as a trade unionist. He is those that slam on the table during negotiations and expect to intimidate the employer. Gonzalez knows nothing about reading corporate financial reports, and does no research. He is a fanatical PUP and seeks only to embarass the govenment. I think that the SSB union members should be wary not to be used in a political footbal. Basta Gonzalez. Be gone.

  4. Renegade says:

Javier – you are really bias. You must be on Dean Barron payroll. Belizeans from Corozal to Punta Gorda are taking a serious lick from this vindictive UDP government. The people of Belize had wanted meaningful change in 2008. Unfortunately one set of clowns were changed for another. The PUP governement took 10million from Social Security in 2005 for the BTL Union Trust. Where is that money? The BTL employees still don’t own shares in BTL. Now the UDP government has taken 50million again from Social Security. It is obvious that Social Security is any government piggy bank. What about the people? What about the workers? Who fighting for them?
