Shooting suspect believed to live in Corozal

While police have not yet established a motive for the shooting, they say it does not appear that robbery was the reason.  They have also made contact with their Mexican counterparts in respect of the getaway vehicle and its occupants.  It is believed that the two suspects are a Mexican and Belizean, who reside in Corozal.

Superintendent Miguel Guzman

“We are monitoring the border but the vehicle did not pass.  Up to now we have still not found the vehicle but we have a suspect whom we are looking for and the investigation continues.”

Marion Ali

“The suspect, is he Belizean of Mexican?”

Superintendent Miguel Guzman

Miguel Guzman

“The Hispanic person was who seen and who actually fired the gun we believe he is of Mexican Nationality but there was also a Belizean along with him.  We are still looking at several possibilities because we know that money changers or peseros, as they are commonly known, are always a target.  It could be possible that he may have done some transaction with some people and something may have gone wrong, sour and this is just like a message or something to try to take revenge.  But we are still in the process of the investigation that is still undetermined. Some people are saying there were four people, some people are saying there were two people, etcetera, etcetera. So what we don’t want to do is to get confused.  So we want to look at people who actually saw or who witnessed the entire incident.”

Marion Ali
“Have you been able to establish links with Mexican authorities to perhaps find out more, who this Mexican was?”

Superintendent Miguel Guzman

“Yes, but at this point in time we do not have an identity.  That is the problem.  I intend to look at the Belizean and ask the Mexican authorities with the Belizean because we have some profile of him, but the Mexican we’re still trying to establish the identity.”

Up to news time, there is no word yet from the Mexican authorities.
