British Warships being pulled out of the Caribbean

It was recently announced that the British Forces are reducing troop numbers in Belize and other countries due to cutbacks in the British Ministry of Defence. The downsizing of BATSUB was the first step locally, and forty-three Belizean employees have already been given notice of termination effective in April. On Monday Britain’s Guardian newspaper revealed that warships that have been patrolling the Caribbean since World War Two are being pulled out of the region. There is grave concern rising in the Caribbean because the patrols have been instrumental in deterring narco-trafficking and other transnational crimes. According to the Guardian and regional newspapers, the ships have intercepted several shipments of cocaine worth as much as seven hundred million US dollars. The British High Commissioner to Belize, Patrick Ashworth confirmed to News Five today that while the warships are being pulled-out, the British Military will maintain a presence in the Caribbean to continue anti-narcotic operations and relief efforts. A Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ship outfitted with a helicopter will take over the patrols. The official announcement of withdrawal dates is expected at the end of March.

With all the drugs flowing through this area, I assumed we were already on our own. We had better start swimming before we dig ourselves in deeper & get eaten by the sharks.

I agree, for a region that does not have instability, no need to spend on a warship, those things must cost a fortune to run. Smaller quicker vessels are a much smarter move.

typical British Conservative Party government. Their philosophy is “Britain first, Britain second, and if there’s anything left over maybe help poor countries. I did a little research today and found out that this is the same party whose Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the late 1970s and 1980s used to call Nelson Mandela a terrorist!!! Can you believe that. Just from that I know that they don’t care bout any one else but themselves so long as it does not affect them.
