3 year old still being treated after being attacked by dog

On Wednesday a three year old girl became the victim of a vicious dog attack in an area known as Jerusalem that is linked to Antelope Street Extension. The infant was bitten on her face, shoulder and legs. Although residents tried to restrain and beat the dog, it wouldn’t let loose of its grip on the child’s head.  That was when two brothers, Stanwell and Samuel Bernardez came to the rescue. After the child’s mother Sara Padilla fainted, someone chopped the dog in the head with a machete and only then did the animal release the girl from its jaws.  Stanwell called 911 for the ambulance, then Samuel rushed along the network of Jerusalem’s London bridges to Antelope Street where he handed over the toddler to the Emergency Medical Technicians. Since the incident occurred both mother and daughter have been inseparable. The girl is being treated for her wounds.  The family dog is expected to be euthanized.

PIT BULLS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL……….ok……………….WELL THEN KEEP THEN CHAINED.

PIT BULLS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL……….ok……………….WELL THEN KEEP THEN CHAINED.

IT’S THE ONLY BREED THAT ATTACKS ITS OWNER………what kinda foolishness is that???

    PIT BULLS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL……….

Wow! You call this a ‘family dog’. Please do some research before calling a dog what it is not. A family dog is not tied all day. A family dog has some basic Obedience Training. A family dog has bite inhibition.

The owner of this dog should be held responsible. The dog is just doing what it was raised to do (be wild and savage) because the owner was lazy and could careless for the dog. If dog owners are not held responsible for their pets’ actions, then this will continue to happen.

Also, did you see how close the dog was tied to the london bridge?? I don’t think it was the dog’s choice to be tied there.

  5. PRINCE MICHAELS says:

Did someone forget that the more these so called “pets” are in chains and deprived of their very freedom, the more they will lash out at people! A dog should NOT be tied and bound to a tree stump depriving it of roaming free. Don’t get me wrong, Im NOT condoning the fact that this dog could have killed this poor child! But before we blame the dog, why don’t we take a closer look at the owner/owners of the so called ” family pet!” So you mean none of you idiots noticed that an attack was eminent and the fact that you morons had a young child should have crossed your mind at least once! Before it attacks a full grown adult it will attack someone /something much smaller! What u guys should have done is train or donate these vicious dogs to the police department so they can let them loose on the thugs and drug dealers messing up our cities and towns in Bze!!

  6. Risu says:

I am a proud of owner of pit bulls. All trained as companion dogs, and they have never bitten anyone. I don’t believe in Breed Specific Legislation .Blame the breed not the deed.

Pit bulls don’t turn on their owner. Do a simple google for pitbull myths and you will find that out.

Ultimately, the owners are responsible for the dog’s action. The dog was a product of its environment. If I lived in the conditions that dog was kept in, I would be just as vicious and lash out at everything around me. Doesn’t have to be a specific breed, even potlickers are like that.

  7. Somewhere in time says:

Sorry, meant to say: dont blame the breed, blame the deed.

  8. Earl Grey says:

A PIT BULL WILL ATTACK ANYTHING THAT MOVES FAST OR IN AN UNCERTAIN MANNER…..

and is THE ONLY BREED KNOWN TO ATTACK ITS OWNER and FAMILY MEMBERS.

  9. LARGE AND SEXY says:

I AM SORRY TO SAY THIS, BUT THE DOG WAS CHAINED OK, IAM SORRY FOR WHAT HAPPEN TO THE CHILD, BUT THE MOTHER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE CAREFUL WITH THE CHILD, ESPECIALLY KNOWING THE KIND OF DOG THAT WAS TIED CLOSE BY.

  10. 2 cents says:

to LARGE AND SEXY this is not the first case of a child being bitten or dieing from a dog attack…. what are you saying the parents are to blame??????? we need to protect or children from murders, rapist and now dogs????? sound like we are suppose to have our children under lock and key???? we must could do better than that…. I’m all for solutions but keeping my child under lock and key is not one of them….. destroy the dog and charge the owner…. this is happening too much i hope they charge the parents of the child that was bitten by their own dog a little while a back also.

  11. spanlish says:

2 CENTS, YOU REALLY DIDN’T GET THE MESSAGE FROM LARGE AND SEXY, ALL SHE/HE IS SAYING THE DOG WAS TIED DOWN. DO YOU OWN A DOG? THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE MANS BEST FRIEND, ACCORDING TO THE CHILD’S MOTHER SHE HAS BEEN LIVING THERE FOR OVER A MONTH, AND THE DOG HAS NEVER BEHAVE LIKE THAT, BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW PITBULLS ARE VICIOUS ANIMALS, SHE SHOULD HAVE WARN HER DAUGHTER NOT TO GO TOO CLOSE TO THE DOG. I AM NOT CONDONING THE DOG’S ACTION, NEVERTHELESS HE WAS TIED, NOT ROAMING THE STREETS .

I JUST PRAY THE CHILD WILL BE OK,

  12. Somewhere in time says:

Asking to ban the breed is like all other districts saying not to allow ppl from belize city because they are ALL criminals, thieves and rapists. Don’t generalize, educate yourself.

  13. islander says:

IF YOU GUYS ARE HONESTLY PREPARED TO SAY THAT THE PITBULL BREED ON ITS OWN IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR THEN YOU ARE PREPARED TO SAY THAT EITHER HUMAN BREED HISPANIC OR BLACK IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR ON ITS OWN…

It is all about how you raise your dog. Similar to human beings it is all about how you raise your kids… We cannot say pitbulls or bad or that hispanics and blacks are bad without knowing how they were raised.

  14. Concerned says:

Earl Grey, Your comments are factually incorrect. Because Pit Bulls have been traditionally used for fighting and baiting, they have been selected for non aggression towards humans. That is why they are used as search and rescue dogs as well as therapy dogs in childrens psychiatric units. When they are owned by ignorant, cruel or neglectful owners or if they are bred by people who want to create dangerous dogs – they can become dangerous. The same as any other large powerful breed. As far as I know, the dog most commonly known to bite its owner is the Cocker Spaniel. Pit Bulls do not attack anything that moves fast – which is ridiculous because it is hardly likely this 3 year old was moving fast. It is not the only breed known to attack its owner or family members. In fact, amongst pit bulls attacking owners or family members is extremely rare compared to many other breeds of dog. Either you believe rumours or you just don’t bother to check your facts. I agree that the dog should be destroyed and looking at the fact that it is still sitting there with a gaping wound gives us some kind of idea of the sort of owners it has. Unfortunately there are very few countries in the world where you can be charged for a dog bite that occurs on your own private property. If there were stricter laws about the breeding of dogs and the ownership of dogs and they were enforced it would go some way to reducing these incidents. As long as owners are allowed to keep dogs chained and not train them or care for them properly, dogs will remain a danger to the public. This isn’t about animal rights – this is about behaving like responsible adults and understanding that whether we choose to own a dog or a car – either can be a danger if not treated with care.

  15. shonuff says:

now this som bull….large n sexy is right, the dog was chained and under his own house in his own yard. ya’ll parents NEED to start keeping a closer eye on yo danm kids. i be danmed if a child or anybody for that matter steps in my yard on my dogs territory un-announced then when he attacks u talk about KILL THE DOG…EVIL PIT BULL…BAD BREED…IT BITES ITS OWNER….mein get outta here with that ish. NOW if the dog is unchained or out its yard roaming jus lookin for trouble attactks someone then i cud understand where ya’ll coming from. i dnt even own a pit but thats freakin common sense if ya’ll would hav taken this to court in amercian under the grounds of the pit being chained and in its yard you don LOST ur case…..

  16. Elias says:

Earl Grey is ridiculous and ignorant. http://belizeanbulliez.webs.com promoting the best of the pit bull breed in Belize.

Pit bulls are not agressive dogz. Its the owners who are irresponsible.

This dog was chained under his house… the toddler’s care take should be in question not the pitbull.
