Weekend sports limited to interoffice hoops

Good evening I’m James Adderley with this week’s dish of Sports Monday.

So we join the mopping session inside the Civic Centre yesterday which gives testimony to the heavy rains that attacked the nation over the weekend. Adhering to the motto “the show must go on”, the Inter-Office Basketball competition completed its full schedule of ballgames yesterday, despite the no show of the fans who were swayed by prevailing weather conditions. We join the opening match featuring Central Bank Jabiru and Atlantic Bank in early fourth quarter action as Christopher McGan of the Jabiru breaks the 43-43 tie with this nice work surrounded by four blue shirts. Atlantic Bank responds with this big time change up in the air to the left handy by Andrew Staine. But here comes McGan again going glass for two. McGan would strike for seventeen points in this confrontation. Still folks, this dish from Andrew Staine allows Elvin Moguel to keep this ballgame close. Edward Baptist, who would lead his team with a game high twenty-four points, then puts the ballgame out of reach with these two crucial free throws. Central Bank prevails in a 60-56 takeover of Atlantic Bank.

Game two brought Police out against the Post Office/Grace Kennedy Amalgamation with cyclist Douglas Lamb suited up for the Post Office jumping against P.C. Warren Anthony. It’s Anthony who gets to strut his stuff first with the two opening points of the ballgame. Lloyd Crawford answers for the Post Office Team with this wicked floater in heavy Police traffic. Isaac Pasquall then spots up for two. Pasquall would give the police eleven points tonight. The end of first quarter finds the law with a one point. However, in the second quarter the Post Office/Grace Kennedy combination brings out the pressure. Greg Mahler picks up the rebound and beats the clock for two points. Andrew Moses wants three, he gets three. He would hit for fourteen points in this outing. Still at the half, the Police show a four point lead. The Police break the game wide open in the third as Isaac Pasquall strikes for three more. Derek Gordon, who would lead all scorers with twenty-one points, gets two more right here. It’s a ten point Police lead at the end of three. Gordon picks up in the fourth where he left off in the third with this banker. Davis Guzman goes for two of his fifteen points with the left hand right here. Fenton James, who led his team with seventeen points, hits three points as they try to make a run late. Nevertheless, the Police pick up the big W 63-55. Other scores from the weekend show Tuff e Nuff Rebels Edged K.H.M.H. 55-53, B.W.S. Pressure proved too much for Tropic Air in a 57-40 final score. Aero Dispatch mashed Milo Fortifiers 57-44. Belize Healthcare Partners were successful against C.S.B. Crushers 45-42. The Belize City Council taxed the Port of Belize 55-52 while B.W.S. Pressure sent the defending champions, Belize Telemedia Limited, packing in a 59-47 final score.

In closing folks, we remind you that the National Football Team, yes our boys will host their Mexican counterpart at Houston United States on June fifteenth to kick off a home and away series in the World Cup Qualifying Series. Hey, win, lose or draw people I’m a Belizean and you are too. That’s it for now though. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
