Body of drowned student still missing

Story PictureOn June first he graduated from Saint John’s high school with honours but tonight family and friends of seventeen year old Clive Rivers are mourning his death following a tragic ending to an outing on Thursday afternoon. Rivers sat the last of eleven CXC exams yesterday morning but then left the city with friends to swim at Isabella Bank. According to the other boys, Clive experienced difficulty in the water and disappeared beneath the surface. Today the young man’s distraught mother is still in shock as she says she didn’t even know her son was going swimming.

“I noh know cause Clive dah wah person weh when he set fi he mind fi do something ih do it because he dah wah very smart person. But not knowing ih gwein, dah di last time I wah see ah.”

Marion Ali
“But his friends, he had a group of friends that he went with.”

Selene Leslie
“Yes, wah group ah friends. Dehn tell me that dehn mi di try save ah but he mi di weigh ah down so ih had to mi let go cause di current mi di ker ah. I went to visit di place yesterday and current, I noh know my son jump inna da wata. I noh know how di boys dehn gone bathe een deh. Current … strong, strong and brown, brown, brown wata, can’t even see the bottom none at all.”

Up to news time search efforts by the Coastguard and villagers had yet to locate the body of Clive Rivers. According Leslie, her son had been planning to study Math and Physics at S.J.C. Junior College in August.
