Belize City mother accused in bike theft remanded to prison

Story PictureTonight a woman accused of stealing a bicycle is behind bars following court proceedings in Magistrates’ Court. This morning twenty-three year old Ebony Flowers was formally arraigned for the Theft of construction worker Jose Hernandez’s beach cruiser. According to the victim, around seven-thirty on Wednesday night, he was riding the bike on Lakeview Street when a group of women stopped him, one of them grabbed him by the shirt and another stole his wheels. With the assistance of the police, Hernandez later identified Flowers as the culprit. The police prosecutor objected to bail, telling Magistrate Sharon Frazer that the crime has become prevalent. Because Flowers could not give the judge a reason why she shouldn’t be remanded, Frazer has ordered that the accused be committed to custody until June thirtieth. Flowers is the mother of three children.
