Stann Creek driver charged for fatal traffic accident

A Stann Creek District driver has also been charged in connection with last week’s fatal traffic accident on the Southern Highway. Investigators have determined that twenty-four year old truck driver Carlos Lopez must answer to charges of Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct and Driving a Motor Vehicle without Due Care and Attention. Around nine on Thursday night, Carlos was driving a pickup truck and trailer loaded with orange peels, when the vehicle collided into a car driven by thirty-two year old Regio Lopez. Regio suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital.

In related news, Orange Walk police have yet to file any charges against Mayor Ravei Gonzalez in connection with Sunday evening’s fatal traffic accident on the Northern Highway. The case file has been forwarded to the D.P.P. Up to news time the results of a urinalysis conducted following the crash had not been made public.
