No arrests in Monday murder but minor charged for March killing

Story PictureThere is little to new to report in the ongoing investigations into Monday evening’s kidnapping, robbery and murder off the Coastal Road. Investigators have recovered the missing Caterpillar bulldozer and tow head that twenty-two year old Emigdio Gomez and twenty-seven year old Cornelius Schmitt were in charge of when they were ambushed by three armed attackers. The vehicles were found this morning abandoned just off the old More Tomorrow Road in the Cayo District. It appeared as if though the driver had lost control of the truck and run off the road. But cops still have few clues as to who those men are. Police believe that the assailants stopped Gomez and Schmitt in the Hattieville area and then kidnapped them. The victims were taken to a feeder road about two miles off the Coastal Highway where they robbed, beaten, tortured and then shot. Though suffering from bullet wounds to his throat and abdomen, Schmitt managed to escape and ran for help. According to doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, he remains in fair condition and his prognosis is positive. Gomez’s body was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday afternoon.

And while police try to locate the suspects in that case, investigators have made an arrest in connection with a murder that took place more than three months ago. This morning a sixteen year old boy was charged with the Murder of thirty-one year old Raymond Mark Thompson Junior, better known as “Quincy”. The minor was arraigned before Magistrate Nathalia Carter and has been remanded to Hattieville Prison until July fourth. Thompson was shot dead on March eighth at Cindy’s Apartments on Partridge Street in Belize City. At the time, witnesses told us the victim had gone to the aid of another tenant who had screamed out for help after someone entered her room and tried to steal her cell phone.
