Police honour their own for long service

Story PicturePolice across the country had their hands full with the weekend crime, but some of the officers took time out on Sunday to officially launch the seven days of activities known as Police Week. The ceremony, which took place in Belmopan, saw the awarding of members of the police department for long service and the recognition of civilian employees and citizens who’ve worked closely with the police. In his speech, Assistant Commissioner of Police Allan Whylie expressed his thanks to the hardworking members of the department and encouraged residents to work with them to reduce crime.

“I wish to also say thanks you to the members of my formation, Eastern Police Division, and many other police men and women across this nation who continue to provide invaluable service to this nation, thus assisting in ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. I am thus urging all citizens across the nation to cooperate and work hand in hand and side by side with their Belize Police Department to rid this nation of the crime. Together, let’s make Belize safer.”

Activities for Police Week include neighbourhood visits, town meetings, and sporting events. The theme for this year is “Together, let’s make Belize safer.”
