Burrell Boom and Crooked Tree villagers want Castro gone

Edmund "clear the land" Castro

Edmund “Clear the Land” Castro was stripped of his ministerial portfolio as Minister of State for Works on November twenty-fourth, but his woes are from over. A Belizean living abroad, Althea Grant, recently provided documentation to the Prime Minister Dean Barrow that she was scammed out of forty-eight thousand dollars in a land deal. She claimed she gave the money to the former Minister of State but that he never got her land. Castro was fired; he now sits at the furthest end in the House but still retains his government vehicle.  And now the constituents of Belize Rural North also want his head. Village council representatives and concerned residents convened a press conference this afternoon, they were highly disgusted and say they are ashamed to be represented by a minister with a questionable reputation and want a bi-election.

Oscar Pollard Sr., Concerned Resident, Burrell Boom

“If what he does warrants the prime minister to remove him from Cabinet, a ministerial position is only given by the prime minister. He is our area representative. If the prime minister can feel that way, think about the people in Belize Rural North, how do we feel?  What we are saying here today is that we are ashamed in our area having somebody like Mister Castro representing us as our area representative. Mister Castro should either resign or we have a bi-election. Mister Castro should also be investigated and the necessary criminal action be taken.”

George Guest, Chairman, Crooked Tree Village Council

“It’s a prestigious title, it is given to him by the people of the Belize Rural North. They put him into power to look after the Belize Rural North, not after his own bank account and he disrespectfully disrespected all of the Belize Rural North. He even got somebody in the United States, Los Angeles actually to threaten me, if I kept on the radio and the TV and whatever and complaining about him, that he would have me removed. Mister Castro, I’ve been in the army, the English army. The Irish have tried to remove me, the Persians have tried to remove me and I am still here.  Please Mister Castro, do the honorable thing and resign and give the Belize people or the Belize Rural North people the chance to redeem what you have put in place or stated when you were asking us to vote for you. We voted for you and we put you there. Now you have disrespected the people of Belize Rural North so do the honorable thing and resign.”

  3. Common Sense says:

Much respect to Mr. Guest, Crooked Tree is blessed to have you.

Now the question….who are you planning to replace Castro with? Please dont tell me Arthur Saldivar or any other corrupt or potentially corrupt PUP.

Such a disastrous situation the whole of Belize finds itself….UDP as one option, PUP as the other, both equally as disgusting.

  4. ruby3 says:

This news article does not explore the motive of Mr. Pollard and Mr. Guest for wanting Castro’s further demise.

The News 5 reporter should have probed with open-ended questions to uncover their real gripe.

  5. Sara says:

  12. J Rhaburn says:

Mr Castro, You are not to be blame for all this…blame the stupid fools that voted a 36 into Belize Rural North. With a smile on your face you should pack your bag and swim (no bus) back to the Southern Region and take all that money and get yourself a new coconut tree.
