Citrus Growers Association wants CPBL’s C.E.O., Dr. Henry Canton, removed

The wrangling in the citrus industry is no secret.  This year there has been a demonstration, a number of press conferences and legal proceedings. In the eye of the conflict, is Doctor Henry Canton the Chief Executive Officer of the Citrus Products of Belize Limited.  The problem is not a new one: The Citrus Growers Association, CGA and its subsidiary the Belize Citrus Growers Association Investment Company Limited, are now making three requisitions.  The first is for the removal of Canton as the CEO of CPBL, the second is that Anderson, who currently sits on the CPBL Board, be appointed as the interim CEO, and that a three-person committee, including two from the majority shareholder and one from the investor sit on the Board.  The third is that a feasibility study be conducted on the different business lines of the CPBL.  In a telephone conversation with Anderson this evening, he said that there has been a downturn of twenty seven million dollars in profits over the last three years and a question of conflict. The meeting was requisitioned last month and is to be held on December seventeenth, which the CGA wants to hold at its mile nine compound on the Stann Creek Valley Road. Moving Canton is not an easy feat; he has the backing of Banks Holdings of Barbados, which has forty-six point eight percent of the shares.  News Five tried to reach Canton for his response, but we were told that he was on another call.
