Wesley students traumatized by murder of 2nd former

Story PictureOn Tuesday the body of fourteen year old Dylan Ayuso was discovered at the abandoned building that was formerly the Venus Bus Terminal. His murder appears to be gang related but up to news time, there have been no arrests and it is believed that an acquaintance was involved. The second form student from Wesley College left home on Monday night to buy food and did not make it back. The teen was tortured before he was killed and a post mortem revealed that he was choked and hit to his head with a two by four piece of wood, which fractured his skull in three places. The senseless murder has sent shock waves through the community already on edge. Ayuso’s classmates and the faculty of Wesley College are still stunned and a network of councilors and support groups are assisting the students to cope with the death of one of their own. News Five spoke with Principal, Brenda Armstrong, who reminisced on Ayuso’s ways and said that the school has lost several students over the years, but he is the first to be so viciously murdered.

Brenda Armstrong, Principal, Wesley College
“The thing we remember most about him was his smile; always with a happy face, playful, high energy. He’s hardly able to sit still. Even when we are speaking about him now, the girls in the class, remember him having to be told by the teacher, go back to your seat. He leaves his chair to go and throw away paper, always energetic high energy.”

“Police believe that it may be gang related. Did you know him to be or associate with any gang members?”

Brenda Armstrong
“Not to my knowledge. I don’t have any evidence to say that he was related to or connected to any.”

Delahnie Bain
“How has the incident affected your school and your students?”

Brenda Armstrong
“I think it has been a blow… really when we try to grapple with news like this it is very difficult. And for some of the students, it is so inexplicable, you know. He is so young, why would anyone want to harm him. Yes he was mischievous but he wasn’t bad so why would they kill him? So questions like that make it difficult for the students and therefore make it difficult for us as the leaders in this school. It‘s also been difficult to grapple with the fact that violence which is always a part of our lives has somehow invaded our little secure space here in the compound and that is hard to at least accept. It’s difficult.”
