SMART gives computers with internet to Nazarene High

There were smiling faces at the Nazarene High School this morning. Ten brand new computers will compliment the school’s lab and they come with the added value of free internet. The students say it is a welcome gesture that is useful for their daily school work and SMART says the partnership is part of the company’s Care Program. News Five’s Delahnie Bain reports.

Nazarene High School in Belize City received a generous donation today from Smart. As part of the Smart Cares Program, the school was given ten computers with free internet.

“Today, we have donated ten computer workstations for their computer lab. And we approached the administration of the school as part of our Smart Cares Program and they identified one of their great needs as assistance in the computer department. So Smart was happy to donate these ten workstations to complete their lab for them.”

“I think it’s an excellent donation that Smart approached us and their offer was very good and decided to work in partnership with Smart so we’re thankful that they have donated ten workstations to Nazarene High School.”

The students are also glad to have the additional workstations.

“I think this donation from Smart is a very good contribution to our school because we didn’t have enough computers and these ten computers that they have given to us is very helpful to us with the free internet also.”

“Well, it was like we had to share computers sometimes because there wasn’t enough for us so these did us very good.”

“I think it’s a very beneficial donation to our school, Nazarene, because for a long time we didn’t get any new system in our computer lab. I’ve been here four years and it’s been a good—we appreciate the donation from Smart.”

“I think it’s a very generous donation. We will benefit from it a lot because we have a new, upgraded system.”

“How important do you think it is to have computers for the students at the school?”

“It is very important because we need to get our homework and assignments and researches done in time.”

But it is not limited to computers, PR for Smart, Ian Courtenay, says the company will have a long term partnership with the school.

“We have also signed an agreement with the school where we will have access to their student body to do surveys and get the opinion of young people on various issues in regards to the communication industry and our service and also where we will assist them in other areas of their development and education.”

“Well, it’s a good partnership because I believe that Smart is community based and with this partnership we will be able to work together with them and they will be able to promote their company and at the same time our students can see that there’s good partnership in the business community and with our educational system in Belize.”

According to Courtenay, Nazarene is the first of many high schools countrywide that will benefit from the Smart Cares Program.
